Career Opportunity: Intern Business Manager

Title: Business Manager Intern
Fixed Term: 1 year

Hours: 35 hours per week
Pay: £12,000 p/a


Support Sport are a growing Social Enterprise, based in Coventry and Warwickshire. We are looking to train an intern Business Manager, to imbed them within our organisation, to prepare for stronger growth and continuously strive to implement our organisation’s strategy. The ensuing Business Manager will be required to manage the continually developing day to day activities of Support Sport.

The Intern Business Manager, will need to be a dynamic, creative and influential person capable of solving problems and leading others. Versatility, flexibility and observational instinct will play a key part in inspiring our expanding team and organisation to deliver outstanding community and business focused initiatives. Most of all, the applicant will need to be an outstanding communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.

For the 12 month Internship period, Support Sport Directors will work alongside the Intern, to develop the necessary skills to fulfil the following roles, responsibilities and duties.


- Micro, Meso, Macro Planning to ensure effective and efficient delivery of goals. This will include Staff Rota, designing delivery plan/schedule and project plans, to align with Business Targets.
- Managing the roles and KPI’s of Support Sport staff.

- Develop communication, co-ordination and logistics of Support Sport to increase quality of delivery.
- Prepare monthly reports to Senior Management/Directors.
- Deliver(Implementation on current projects), Design (Risk assess, feedback, draw recommendations and make proposals for change) and Develop (expand on current/proposed policies) Support Sport Policies and Procedures, protecting Support Sport, staff, volunteers, users and the wider environment.
- Developing team and individual business goals, and designing strategies and organising business resources to advance those goals.
- Identify business opportunities, gaps in the market or perceived needs of potential users.
- Manage the delegation of tasks, roles and responsibilities
- Manage budgets of various projects and business ventures.

- Purchasing/Ordering goods for project delivery, marketing, branding and general
business management.
- Ensure workers have the resources to complete their work.

Responsibilities and Duties

- Set and maintain high personal and workforce standards.
- Work with local, regional and national partners to ensure a co-ordinated approach to our work.
- Build and maintain networks and positive working relationships within, and externally to Support Sport, and our projects, displaying professionalism and enthusiasm.
- Attend meetings or networking events as a representative of Support Sport.
- Agree to abide by a code of conduct and carry out duties in accordance with Support Sport policies and procedures; including equal opportunities, child protection, health and safety at work etc.
- Ensure that all activities are delivered to the very highest standards
- To be committed to continuous professional development relevant to the post and personal training needs supporting future career advancement.
- To undertake other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time commensurate with the grade of the post.
- To follow excellent safeguarding practice at all times.
- Deliver Coaching and/or tutoring sessions to the highest standard.
Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Qualifications

Knowledge and Experience:

- Relevant knowledge and experience of sports and community development
- knowledge of issues that affect excluded individuals or communities
- Knowledge of relevant governing body programmes, policies and practices.
- Good understanding of Child Protection, Sports Development, Business Management, Human Resource Management, Health and Safety and Sports Equity principles, policies and procedures.
- Minimum of two years’ experience working in a sports coaching, youth work or community development setting.
- Sports coaching and leading sports programmes
- Experience of coaching and delivering in a wide range of environments including schools, club and community settings
- Experience of managing and leading staff
- Evidence of leading partnership work at a local level with a range of organisations

- A level 3 coaching qualification (or working towards)
- One other National Governing Body coaching certificate
- Tutor qualification (e.g. Sports Leaders or JFO Tutor)
- Business/Sports Development/Management Degree/Equivalent Qualification
